ABOUT

Ingvild Hovland Kaldal (b. 1985, Trondheim, Norway) is an artist based in Malmö, Sweden. She works with drawing and sculpture in close dialogue with materials, where intuition and spontaneity shape both process and expression. Her practice moves along the edges of psychology and perception, often approaching vulnerability through humor and a sense of the absurd. In recent years, she has explored the relationship between drawing and sculpture in materials such as charcoal, clay, and wool.

Her work is driven by making as a wayform of thinking. Rather than moving from idea to form, works develop through shifting relations between material, gesture, and perception—sometimes converging, sometimes in tension.

Kaldal holds an MFA from Malmö Art Academy (2015) and a BFA from Valand Academy, Gothenburg. Her work has been exhibited at Malmö Konsthall, Åbo Art Museum, Stavanger Art Museum, Ystad Art Museum, Grimmuseum, Fisher Parrish Gallery, Galleri Steinsland Berliner, Akershus Art Center, Kunstraum Kreuzberg, and the Gothenburg International Art Biennial.
